Validating STARS State Reporting for New Mexico in PowerSchool

By Al Momrik on July 19, 2022 at 1:49 PM

The Student Teacher Accountability Reporting System (STARS) is an upgrade to the Accountability Data System (ADS) which provides greater functionality to schools, districts, and NMPED.

STARS is designed as an educational data collection and reporting model that builds upon the strengths of respective public education partners represented across state, district, and local levels.

It is thus a highly flexible model that incorporates a two-way flow of information: aggregating necessary data upward from respective schools and districts to the state to comply with state and federal reporting requirements and general systems management while providing disaggregated state data back down from the state to districts and schools.

PIMS Reporting - Your Guide to Stress Free State Submission for Pennsylvania

By Al Momrik on June 29, 2022 at 11:20 AM

The Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) is a statewide longitudinal data system for the collection and reporting of unit-level educational data. PIMS was developed with the purpose of:

  • Allowing the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to meet federal and state reporting
    requirements;
  • Streamlining the reporting processes from educational institutions to PDE and the U.S. Department of Education
  • Reporting timely and accurate education data through standardized and ad hoc reporting capabilities;
  • Improving educational decision-making through the use of high quality data and decision support tools; and,
  • Providing longitudinal data on educational progress over time.

Act 24 of 2011 authorizes PDE to collect unit-level data that are mandated by state or federal statute or regulation from postsecondary institutions. PDE is collecting data elements necessary to meet the following reporting requirements:

  • Reporting required for the Pennsylvania Community College Annual Report;
  • Reporting required for the Pennsylvania Transfer and Articulation System; and,
  • Reporting required as a result of receiving State Fiscal Stabilization Fund monies from the federal government.

How to Accurately Complete PEIMS State Reporting in Texas

By Al Momrik on June 16, 2022 at 3:55 PM

The Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) encompasses all data requested and received by Texas Education Agency (TEA) about public education, including student demographic and academic performance, personnel, financial, and organizational information.

Technical support for gathering the data from district databases is supplied by one of the twenty educational service centers (ESCs) or by private vendors. A software system of standard edits, to enhance the quality of data, is used by ESCs and again by the agency on district data submissions. Currently, the major categories of data collected are:

  • organizational
  • budget
  • actual financial
  • staff
  • student demographic
  • program participation
  • school leaver
  • student attendance
  • course completion
  • discipline

TEA manages other collections for evaluation, monitoring, funding, or auditing. Many are automated, electronic collections.

In compliance with the Texas Education Code, PEIMS contains only the data necessary for the legislature and TEA to perform their legally authorized functions in overseeing public education.

What is CALPADS? California State Reporting Made Easy in PowerSchool

By Al Momrik on June 9, 2022 at 1:36 PM

The California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) is the foundation of California’s K–12 education data system, comprising student demographic, program participation, grade level, enrollment, course enrollment and completion, discipline, and statewide assessment data.

In order to meet the requirements of California Education Code Section 60900, Local Education Agencies (LEAs) shall retain and report to CALPADS individual pupil and staff records, including:

  • Statewide Student Identifier (SSID) data
  • Student enrollment and exit data
  • All necessary data to produce required graduation and dropout rates
  • Demographic data
  • Data necessary to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
  • Other data elements deemed necessary by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction

LEA maintenance of individual SSIDs includes the accurate and timely reporting of demographic, program, local student enrollment, and exit data to CALPADS, and the timely resolution of SSID anomalies with other LEAs.

Failure of LEAs to comply with state law by not meeting CALPADS reporting requirements may result in zero enrollment counts on official state and federal reports as well as on official, publicly-accessible web sites. In addition, zero enrollment counts will result in the loss of any funding based on official enrollment.
